Unplasticised PolyVinyl Chloride (uPVC) doors were introduced in this country in the 1970’s.

This new type of very strong plastic could be made into a totally new type of door and window system. Flexible and strong enough to substitute for wood, it is also weather resistant, so never requires painting.

The construction of uPVC doors makes a lot of the locking mechanisms unique. Very often a multi-point locking system is operated by a single locking cylinder, while still using a system with multiple secure locking bolts.

However, some of the old mechanisms are very insecure having only a few rollers and a latch and do not meet any insurance requirements, so an upgrade may be required incorporating a modern system featuring multiple hooks and deadbolts.
